Opening Act students are featured in a new article published by Playbill, highlighting the organization’s theatre education programs and the impact of arts access for young people across New York City.

The article spotlights Opening Act’s work in public schools and after school programs, where students build confidence, creativity, collaboration skills, and community through theatre. By providing consistent, high-quality arts programming and performance opportunities, Opening Act helps students develop their voices as artists, leaders, and storytellers.

The feature also highlights student experiences in rehearsal and performance, offering a look at how theatre education supports social-emotional learning, public speaking skills, teamwork, and self-expression — skills that extend far beyond the stage.

Opening Act is proud to see its students and programs recognized in a national theatre publication and is grateful to Situation Project for featuring the organization and helping share the stories of Opening Act students and their work.

As Opening Act continues its 25th Anniversary season, audiences will have the opportunity to see students perform live in the upcoming production. Performances showcase the creativity, dedication, and growth of young artists from across New York City who participate in Opening Act programs.
